Ever since the start of the recent health scare (H1N1), everywhere you look you will find a bottle of hand sanitizer gel’s. They can be seen in condo lobbies, malls, shops, stores, bathrooms, car parks (parking lots) and everywhere else you can think of.

The thing about hand gel sanitizers is that they are dangerous for many reasons – some of those reasons include:

They are dangerous because of their alcohol content. They all contain ethyl alcohol, which is a strong grade of alcohol with a higher level of alcohol than your regular bottle of vodka – something like 120 proof. A few licks by a small child can give them an overdose of alcohol leading to alcohol poisoning and a trip to the hospital – a quick online search can lead you to endless mainstream news links of articles related to this point. Here is a link to a report by FOX NEWS of a girl that was hospitalized for overdosing on hand cleaner- click here.

Ethyl alcohol is highly flammable and will catch on fire easily. If you have any trace of it on your hands or body and have a even a slight run in with a flame, you will turn into the human torch that much quicker!

Another reason to avoid hand sanitizers is the chemical content; they contain either Triclosan or Glycerine (click on the hyper links to learn more) as their second ingredient, both of which have serious health warnings because of their toxicity.

Triclosan is a pesticide; a title given by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Glycerine is a chemical that dries the skin from the inside layer to the outer layer – not to mention the amount of damage these chemicals do to other organs such as the liver, brain, blood and immune system (suppression).

Do not be fooled by thinking that a small dose will do no damage; to put it in perspective, drinking a liter of gasoline will kill you; a drop will still do damage even though small – it is still poison; furthermore, when you add up all the small drops, that is when the damage begins.

There is no such thing as moderation of poison or a moderation of doing something bad, for example, moderately beating your wife or your children; there can only be moderation of something that is good for the body, such as moderately drinking water versus drowning in it.

Most people rely on the government to protect them and do everything for them, removing personal responsibility, but just to let you know, no government organization is currently in charge of reviewing products such as cosmetics, hair products, body products and house hold cleaners – they leave it to the companies, making these companies free to add which every chemical they desire in any combination without any restrictions.

Take caution using these chemicals and if you are noticing your hands are a bit dry, perhaps you should stop using harsh chemicals such as the ones found in hand cleaner and try to use an alternative solutions  such as virgin coconut oil – click here for more information on virgin coconut oil benefits.
