Dr. Herbert M Shelton Food combining and physiology

Some of the greats in physiology: the late Herbert Shelton, Pavlov, Tilden, Wiley, McLeod, Howe, Cabot, Stiles, and Mottram have shown us how the digestive system functions and benefits us if given the chance to. Some do not tell us directly, but the information is there to analyze.

Throughout the years, we have learned that putrefaction, the cause of odorous stool, diarrhea, gas, hemorrhoids, colitis, and most eliminating issues, is normal. However, this “normal” process of putrefaction destroys amino acids and their chains, and means that toxins such as: carbon dioxide, fatty acids, marsh gas and phenol are created. Some of these toxins are absorbed and some evacuate via the urine and/or stool – the cause of odorous stool.

At one point in history, it was thought that the world was flat, and this was considered a “normal” thought and anyone who disagreed with it was more than just an outcast – usually highly ridiculed; eventually there came a point when Rome (The Vatican) executed scientist who openly expressed their theory that the Earth was not the center of the universe. The thing is, back then, there was no real way of proving this. This is what they thought because of their lack in the understandings in science.

However, today, we have science research that strongly suggests a very high percentage of 99.99999% of how the digestives system works based on laws of digestion. The Law of Digestive Secretion of Digestive Enzymes is the proof the physiologists today have to support their findings with enzymes, and how they are important in the digestive process.

This highly, well-researched information on how the digestive system functions is ridiculed and disbelieved in the same way the astronomers were disbelieved years ago. Caring about your diet and health has become extreme, and eating as most people do (eating at Mc Donald’s – the very food that has been documented to cause illness) is being conservative. Sensibly, should not be switched around?

The exceptional individual who takes physiology to the maximum will not only carefully combine, but they will make sure that the fuel they chose to eat is raw, whole, organic, fresh, ripe, low-fat fruits and vegetables.

Physiology has shown us that putrefaction and fermentation, “the usual,” does not occur when a diet is properly administered.

Raw food comes with its own enzymes to do its part in the digestion process versus forcing the human body to do all the work. We have learnt that we have a limited supply of enzymes and when they run out, the human body runs out of time. By eating a meal with its enzymes intact, the upper part of the stomach (the food-enzyme stomach) is utilized reserving the human bodies supply of digestive enzymes.

Whole food is complete with water and all the other known and undiscovered nutrients, which compliment each other. Science is constantly finding new nutrients – we barely know the half of it. This means that whole food has everything needed to assist with digestion; even the nutrients we have yet discovered.

For example, if you eat a raisin, it is missing the water content of the fruit (grape), so now you have to add water to your diet to compensate, which will not suffice because additionally the nutrients have been lost. This is only one example; there are far more complex ones.

Organic, does it really require an explanation? How would chemicals such as: pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides (Coincidentally they all rhyme with suicide) benefit the body in any way? Do we really need to put our bodies through all that?

If fruits and vegetables are not fresh and ripe, they are not in their maximum nutritious stage. Yes, it makes a difference. Bruised fruit falls into this category; when fruit is bruised, they quickly lose their value and should not be eaten. Cutting the bruised part is recommended.

High fat foods (even fruits) takes a very long time to digest. Why would you want to do that? Have you every felt tired after a long nights sleep? Have you ever considered that you body was too busy digesting all that fat you ate the night before?

Even when it comes from a fruit such as a durian or an avocado, it makes no difference. Eating food that takes long periods of time to digest keeps the body from recovering and repairing issues that cannot be avoided such as pollution. Further, fat slows the body, and it adds extra fat reserves, which are not necessary.

Putrefaction and fermentation is an effect of combining incorrectly.

Physiologists tell us that proper food combining assists with nutrient absorption.

Certain combination’s of food are dangerous because the digestive enzymes of one type of food destroy another.

When starch combines with sugars, it forces the sugar to wait in the stomach with the starch; simple sugar digests in the intestine. And we are talking about healthy, unrefined, simple sugar. When it has to sit in the stomach, it starts the fermentation process, which causes a number of very bad further effects. The process includes: converting into carbon dioxide, acetic acid, water and alcohol. Yes, all those things go into the blood stream. For people who learn visually, visual these things running through your brain, heart, and all the other vital organs you can think of, every minute of every day. These products are also found in the stool and urine. And it must be added that tonsil issues are another side effect. Ever had your tonsils removed? This could have been avoided.

When combining acid with starch, ptyalin is destroyed; this is the enzyme the body produces to digest starch foods. Fruit acid suspends ptyalin production in the mouth and stomach. The secretion of ptyalin in the mouth is the first stage of the digestion process of starches, and the existing ptyalin in the digestive system is destroyed giving digestion of starches no chance. This is where the beginning of the fermentation begins.

Protein and starches, when combined, also destroys ptyalin, the enzyme that is produced to break down starches and complex sugars into simple sugars (mono-saccharides) does not get to do its job, however, encourages the fermentation process instead of creating the nutrients (mono-saccharides) to feed the body.

Protein cannot even be mixed with protein, if you can get your head around that one. Proteins with different characteristics and different compositions do not combine. This is due to their different individual needs. For instance, flesh receives strong juices (Hydrochloric acid) within the first hour, where mammary gland secretion (milk, yoghurt, and cheese) requires the strongest juices in the last hour of digestion; eggs digest at another time different to the two previously mentioned.

Acid and protein – Drugs and fruit acid destroy and stop pepsin production in the stomach, which creates putrefaction causing all sorts of problems including hemorrhoids, odorous stool, etc…

Fat with protein and starch – The fat stops/ delays/ inhibits all gastric juices for hours. Pepsin (protein enzyme) and hydrochloric acid is also lowered by 50%.

Sugar with protein – Sugar digests in the intestine, if it is taken with protein, or with starches, it has to wait until the protein completes digesting, while fermenting in the process.

In summary, an easy way of eating where you will not have to worry about combining your food is not to mix them at all, at least until you have figured out how. Eat your fruit separately, and simply eat as much of that particular fruit as you can until you are full as the animals do in nature.

Eat your vegetables the same way as your fruits; just eat a bowl of tomatoes until you figure out how to safely know how to combine food – the less combining the better anyway.

If you have the inner strength to eat this way, you will be greatly rewarded. Food that you put into your mouth will do either one of two things, it will either feed you or toxify you.

A concept can be believed or disbelieved, but cannot be judged upon, until it has been fully experienced.
