(101 Health Steps) This article will explain what happens when individuals eat fruit at the end of their day. And that is a day of eating “normal meals” – Today’s Standard Diet (TSD).

Fruit is the number one source of vitamins and the number two source of minerals. Digestion of fruit takes place in the small intestine, not in the stomach, so the fruit has to get to the small intestine as quickly as possible, so that the digestion of fruit can take place, and the nutrients can absorb and assimilate.

If fruit is detained in the stomach, it will start to rot and ferment, which means it will turn into alcohol, acetic acid (the 5% found in vinegar), carbon dioxide and water. This occurs if there is something digesting in the stomach (from TSD) upon the arrival of the fruit.

The food from the previous meals of the day (TSD) are usually the types of food that takes hours to days to digest, which means the fruit cannot pass through and thus begins the fermenting process in the stomach.

Ideally, fruit should be eaten in the early parts of the day to avoid fermentation (for those on TSD), and fruit should be avoided after a TSD meal of complex carbohydrates or high fat/protein.
