Are pillows healthy? This is a questions that people rarely ask. Usually individuals ask which pillow is healthy. However, if we follow the old adage, “what is good for a baby is good for us,” we realize that a new born baby does not use or need a pillow. They sleep on their backs and eventually on their stomachs. Why have we decided to use pillows? Could the corporations that profit in pillow sales have something to do with it? Would they care if we all stopped using pillows?

We are on our feet all day long, and if we are not on our feet, we are sitting down. Further, when we are not standing or sitting, we have our head propped up by a pillow; our circulatory system is constantly going against gravity to bring blood and nutrients to our brain, which is a very important organ. It is very interesting that when we read as far back in history as the time of Buddha, we learned that he has been teaching that individuals sleep on a flat mat without a pillow.

Hygienists suggest that the human organism benefits from an angle that puts the head in a lower position to the heart and the heart at a lower position to the feet; they recommend this to be done daily.

Pillows these days are full of chemicals (dyes) and may be filled with the wrong things, which may further harm the human organism, which can be totally avoided if they were eliminated. Businesses tend to do what ever they can to cut costs, including using the cheapest material they can find regardless of health damage: that is what recalls are for, which of course occurs after companies make billions of dollars first (Please watch the documentary The Corporation if you have difficulties believing this statement).

This health step is another money saving step that benefits the body almost as much as it does the wallet. In addition, as the saying goes, “We develop or are born with everything we need to survive and thrive.” We do not develop pillows anatomically, they are created by man and machines.

In his book, Enzyme Nutrition, Dr. Edward Howell states,

“It is the misuse of fire by man in the form of cooking that I have called the fatal process… Any kind of heat treatment of food in the kitchen destroys enzymes. Slow or fast baking, slow or fast boiling, stewing, and frying all destroy 100 percent of the enzymes in food. [Steaming is also included in the list; try putting your hand in steam to find out how many enzymes in your hand survive.] Vigorous boiling takes place at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Frying is done at a much higher temperature, and in addition to destroying enzymes, it also damages protein, or forms new chemical compounds with unknown and possibly pathogenic possibilities [This includes the protein in broccoli, which contain more protein calorie per calorie than most meat]. Imposing still more burden upon the metabolic enzymes. Although baking takes place at 300 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, it is in dry heat, so the effect is no more destructive than at boiling temperatures. Enzymes are completely destroyed at all of these temperatures, however. “

“When I was in active medical practice, I developed a special electrothermo therapy immersion apparatus to apply high temperature treatment to specific parts of the body to stimulate local enzyme activity. This activity increases two to three times for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit increase in local temperature. I modified some of this apparatus to permit experiments to determine the thermal death point of protoplasm (living matter [cells]), and found that immersion in water at 118 degrees Fahrenheit destroyed enzymes in a half-hour. The temperature of 118F also blistered the skin, and prevented subsequent germination of seeds when they were immersed for a half-hour. Comparing 118F with any of the cooking temperatures, you can see that the enzymes in foods have not the slightest chance of escaping destruction under any kind of kitchen heat exposure. “

“In 1937, Kohman, Eddy, White, and Sanborn, Columbia University, published a paper entitled “Comparative Experiments With Canned, Home Cooked and Raw Food Diets,” Journal of Nutrition 14:9-19 (1937). It turned out that the canned food eaters were the heavyweights. Canned food, which must be cooked at high heat to preserve it, exerted a powerful stimulating effect on the endocrine chain, promoting a large body weight increase. (The endocrine chain is a system of glands that help to regulate body function.) I believe this is the proper way to interpret the results of this experiment, although I am aware that another interpretation is usually employed. To say that cooking improves utilization and absorption missed the point. Is anyone so naïve as to insist that we can improve on a process that has kept a vast population of organisms living out their lives for millions of years without the aid of the cook stove? If utilization of raw foodstuffs proceeded at a normal rate for these millions of years and we step in and do something to food, such as cooking it, which increases its utilization and absorption beyond the normal, this amounts to a perversion. If obesity is the result, it certainly is not wholesome. And if does not require deep insight to perceive that the evil consequences of such an assault on the endocrine balance may later hand us a legacy of many apparently unrelated pathological entities.”

Consuming enzyme-free food forces the body to create the enzymes from its enzyme bank account. The moment the enzyme bank is empty the human organism dies. Further, when the body is busy making digestive enzymes, it is not making metabolic enzymes, which are the enzymes that fix the human organisms illnesses and health issues. When people eat enzyme-free food three or more times a day, the body is not focusing on the health issues, which are associated with eating an enzyme-free diet: what is bad becomes worse.

People disagreeing with the scientifically proven facts based on well established studies that heat destroys enzymes must do their own research, so they can prove it to themselves. Nutrition research must not be judged based on hearsay (Information from unreliable sources: parents, friends, family, TV, doctors of medicine (drugs), fitness ads, health shops selling products, and teachers of other subjects besides health); however, opinions may be given in disagreement, even though it would be based on obvious bigotry and ignorance since everyone has a right to an opinion. This is usually the case when people are in denial and trying to protect their ignorance, so that they can protect themselves from the realization that they have been fooled their whole life.

Another reason is that individuals simply do not want to let go of their addiction of cooked foods (cooked foods have been proven to be addictive over and over), so they create excuses in order to permit themselves to do things that are wrong. We like to fool ourselves; i.e., life insurance (in actuality death insurance).

The Science of Anatomy identifies that humans are born with or physically develop everything they need to survive; humans were not born with steamers, juicers, ovens, stoves, or the like.

Humans have yet to improve on nature due to the complexity of nature for the simple human mind. The more nutrients we find, the more nutrients we realize there are in even a simple banana.

From a biblical point of view, the garden of Eden was just that, a garden. It was not called the farm of Eden or the slaughter house of Eden; there was no mention of killing animals. Adam and Eve were not supplied with knives or the secret of creating fire. As the story goes, they were supplied with a garden for a reason.

Dr. Edward Howell is the foremost authority on enzyme nutrition, and his work on the subject is priceless and undeniable. His book is strongly recommended especially for those who have not read a thing on the subject but then to dictate and educate others on the subject wrongfully.

Solution – Eat your food with the enzymes intact and live a longer, healthier life.

Optimists May Have Fewer Strokes

(Med Page Today) People who view the world through rose-colored glasses may have the best view, according to researchers who suggest that a healthy dose of optimism can reduce the risk of stroke.

A survey of more than 6,000 older Americans, actually a subset of participants in the biennial Health and Retirement Study, had a lower relative risk of stroke for each unit increase in an optimism measure, Eric Kim, a clinical psychology doctoral student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and colleagues, wrote in a paper published online in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association.

Using a scale that ranged from 3 to 18, each unit increase in optimism was associated with an age-adjusted OR of 0.90 for stroke (95% CI 0.84 to 0.97; P<0.01).

Moreover, although negative psychological factors – anxiety (OR 2.12; P<0.01), depression (OR 1.20; P<0.01), negative affect (OR 1.69; P<0.01), and neuroticism (OR 1.28; P<0.05) – were significantly associated with stroke, optimism was able to blunt their impact.

“The protective effect of optimism remained significant in all models, implying that optimism protects against stroke above and beyond the effects of the negative psychological factors tested,” Kim and colleagues concluded.

“There is this notion that optimists are foolish and don’t worry about health outcomes because they believe everything will be fine,” Kim told MedPage Today in an interview. “But studies consistently show that high optimism is associated with health knowledge and the pursuit of healthy behaviors.”

Kim tempered that answer a bit by saying there is “an inflection point” where the health of those in the highest tertile (95th) of optimism begins to decline.

The optimists in this small sample at the high end tended to believe everything will be fine without them necessarily taking the appropriate action to ensure the desired end, he said.

Nevertheless, this is the first study to discover a correlation between optimism and stroke. Previous research had shown that low pessimism and temporary positive emotions are linked to lower stroke risk.

The researchers made a distinction between optimism and other forms of positivity.

“Happiness and joy, for example, can be temporary, but optimism is broader and will show up from day to day and action to action and is more systemic,” Kim said.

For the study, Kim and colleagues used the Health and Retirement Study, a nationally representative and prospective panel study that surveys 22,000 Americans ages 50 and greater every two years. They focused on data from 2006 through 2008.

Their analysis included a subset of 6,044 adults (2,542 men, 3,502 women) who were stroke-free at baseline. They adjusted analyses for chronic illnesses, self-rated health, and relevant sociodemographic, behavioral, biological, and psychological factors.

During the study period, 88 strokes occurred. For each unit increase in optimism, as measured by a modified Life Orientation Test-Revised, researchers found a 9% reduction in the risk of stroke.

Kim remarked about the swift impact of optimism as they had followed participants for only two years.

To adjust for the large number of potential covariates, researchers created five different models.

The core model consisted of age, gender, chronic illness, and self-rated health. Each succeeding model added covariates to the core:

Nonetheless — and perhaps indicating an optimistic nature — he suggested that promoting optimism might be an intervention to reduce stroke risk, but he did concede that more studies are needed.

Source: <a href="People who view the world through rose-colored glasses may have the best view, according to researchers who suggest that a healthy dose of optimism can reduce the risk of stroke. "The protective effect of optimism remained significant in all models, implying that optimism protects against stroke above and beyond the effects of the negative psychological factors tested," Kim and colleagues concluded. "There is this notion that optimists are foolish and don't worry about health outcomes because they believe everything will be fine," Kim told MedPage Today in an interview. "But studies consistently show that high optimism is associated with health knowledge and the pursuit of healthy behaviors." Kim tempered that answer a bit by saying there is "an inflection point" where the health of those in the highest tertile (95th) of optimism begins to decline. "Happiness and joy, for example, can be temporary, but optimism is broader and will show up from day to day and action to action and is more systemic," Kim said. Each succeeding model added covariates to the core: Model 2: core model plus additional sociodemographics (race/ethnicity, marital status, educational degree) Model 3: core model plus health behaviors (current smoker, exercise, alcohol use) Model 4: core model plus metabolic factors (diabetes, body mass index) Model 5: core model plus cardiovascular factors (systolic/diastolic blood pressure, hypertension, heart disease) They found that the association between optimism and stroke remained significant in all five models, regardless of which covariates were included. "People have known intuitively that positive psychological outlooks can enhance health outcomes. Research is finally examining those questions," Kim said. But Kim and his colleagues cautioned that relying on self-reported data was a clear limitation of the study as was the short follow-up period of only two years. Nonetheless -- and perhaps indicating an optimistic nature -- he suggested that promoting optimism might be an intervention to reduce stroke risk, but he did concede that more studies are needed.">Med Page Today, originally published on July 22, 2011

Parents and children, husbands and wives, coworkers, employees, and friends hit a certain limit when they are around each other for an extended period of time. A point is reached when things become comfortable and they treat each other in an abusive manner because of the familiarity and lack of patience they have with each other – they take each other for granted. This is usually when the problems begin. Tone in conversation starts to become forceful and rude. Arguments easily spark. This abusive treatment is not done with strangers; we would not dare to be this rude with strangers. Because of the relationship that has been developed, individuals are more capable of taking the abuse.

This problems starts with the individual, you, because those people that you have a problem communicating with, have people in their life that they communicate with better than they do with you. The way individuals present themselves is a good place to start: commonly people have a certain role that they identify with, as explained in depth in the book A New Earth, and these roles may include boss, parent or due to having a higher education. Individuals take their roles and create an illusionary(sic) ego.

Moreover, you, the real problem in relationships (most of the time), are probably not respecting the people that you do not have good relations with. Respecting others is letting them make the mistakes they need to make in order to improve in life. As an experienced surfer, I have learned that making mistakes is what makes a pro surfer. Falling one way teaches the body not to lean in that particular direction that causes a fall. Similar to walking, children learn balance when they fall; it is all a part of the learning curve. Respecting others means that those people we communicate with are not being forced into accepting your ideas and concepts. As the Crime Scene Investigators do, we are to present our ideas and concepts the best we can and that it is. It is up to the individual to accept them as their own views. We have to understand that individuals figure things out for themselves when they are ready. We are not all at the same place, mentally, at the same time. If we force individuals to believe what we believe, we may lose them, and if you are reading this, this may be the case for you, but it is never to late, and this is the good news. The people that we have problems communicating with well, accept us when they see and feel that we have made a change.

Boss

As a boss, communication should be done with empathy and love. Communication with staff must be done clearly, articulately, understandingly, and must consider their employee’s individual needs. Asking for their cooperation is a good start. If they do not follow orders, do not make both your lives difficult by arguing, simply use the evaluation part of their career to address issues. They will eventually hang themselves by not following the rules or obeying orders. If a boss wants to have staff obey instructions, it is up to the boss to present the directions in such a manner that the individuals will find interest in the concept and take the concept on as their own. If they find benefit to the concept, they will adopt it with pleasure. However, if they do not accept the policy, the annual review is the time to address this issue. Nevertheless, remember to hear them out. As will be discussed later, people like to be heard or talk.

Parents

Parents quite often do not let their children do the things that they disagree with; however, the child, if feels that they cannot be honest with their parents, will do the things that their parents do not like without their parents knowledge. This is a serious problem. If children feel that they can communicate honestly with their parents, specifically teens with this particular example, they will do what their parents do not like without the parents’ knowledge. Having your child do something you do not agree with, with your knowledge and support instead of being in the shadows without your knowledge, is a much better position to be in. If this does not happen, later in life, the child will simply grow further apart from the parents. Further, the child, when become they become a parent, will be too easy on their child because people automatically do the extreme opposite to what they experience. Parents are here to set the example and to present the evidence of living a ‘better’ life. It is up to the teen or young adult to experience life and to learn from their mistakes. Regardless of being accurate in every aspect here, it must be agreed upon that being out of your child’s life is not as successful as being a part of it while they make their mistakes. Sometimes we have to let them learn for themselves, and this is a much better position to be in than not being in their life or knowing what they are doing.

Husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend

Husbands and wives, or boyfriends and girlfriends, must first realize that they are not treating their partner as they do strangers, and that they have simply lost patience and must learn to recover the patience in order to recover from their communication and relationship issues. Either party must learn to accept the other for who they are or have become (people grow as time goes by, some grow together, and some grow apart). You are the one that made to choice to be with the other person, so you have no one to blame. When the other party is not giving you what you want, we have to learn to respect their decision. Just because you know them very well, it does not mean that you are entitled to take advantage of them. If their decision is not respected, this is where the problems begin. Regardless of the situation, respect is the first step.

Second step is love: start over and start talking to each other as one would to a newborn baby or a new friend. If a newborn baby were to vomit on you, would you get angry at it? Of course not, and this is the type of level we have to go back to. If one were to make a new friend and that new friend spilled your drink, would you be kind or would you get angry? No one has the right to order any other person to do anything. Asking, however, is a different subject. Asking is very acceptable. If your partner does not want to do something, you have to accept it as you would a stranger. They are in no position to have to obey you. No one owns anyone. You picked them, so deal with it. If they do not want to do something that you want them to do, you are out of luck, so you will have to do it yourself. Even if the request was done with empathy and love, it does not mean that the request will be granted. Always remember to speak to each other with love and compassion. If you give love, you will also receive love. Life is a mirror: whatever you give you receive, which is articulately explained in the book The Power. When one partner comes home from a long day at work or school, they might start to bicker, this bickering is a shock for the partner who has been at home all day alone in peace and quite. Consider the other person when communicating with them; put yourself in their shoes – use your imagination that is what it is for. Again, remember, what you life is a mirror, if you cannot forgive someone, in reality, you are not forgiving yourself and no one can forgive you either. Further, the more you get angry the more you will become angry; the more you do not forgive, the more people will not forgive you either.

Friends and Siblings

When it comes to friends or siblings, you are not their boss, leader, or owner, you are not their parent, you are only their equal – Do not be bossy. As the Crime Scene Investigator does, presenting the evidence is the only option; understanding the evidence is their job not yours. Further, a good example for others to follow and giving advice in a loving, heartfelt manner are the only options available to you. If this rule is broken, the friendship will be lost or push back to before basic levels, but they can be recovered with the proper adjustments, which will be discussed more below. Most of the time, the information we want to share with our friends or siblings is the same information we need usually need for ourselves. With that said, the more you spend worrying about others, is less time you can focus on improving yourself. It is no one else’s job is to look after you, only yours – assuming you are not a baby, which does require adult care. Each and every adult is in charge of taking care of themselves. Take care of yourself and be the example and maybe your friends will follow if they catch on, and if they do not, it is not your problem.

Solutions

As a solution, you will be happy to learn that it is never too late. It might take time but there is a remedy: First of all, we as individuals have to show them. Most people are actually visual learners, which means that they learn with their eyes, so telling people what to do is not really effective in most cases as might be concluded. Auditory learners are not so common, and an even scarcer breed is a kinesthetic learner, which learn with the sense of touch. This evidence supports the old lead by example philosophy. Once your change has been noticed, things will eventually change and the individual you want be bond with will start calling you. Showing interest is an important step; it is important for you to build a new connection, a new start.

Whatever is important to them, should be important to you. Whether it be their job, friends, family or hobby, you have to take interest into what they like. Having a good rapport with their family and friends is just as important as having a good relationship with them. Fix those relationships too! If talking about things that do not matter to you is what it takes, then do that. You might not agree with what they say, but does it really make a difference if your ego did not rule you?

Listen more than you speak. People like talking, and if you are talking, you are making a poor listener. Ask questions, ask for opinions and ask for advice. Find subjects that they like and show interest – do not over do it because you will be caught and found to be fake and a possible threat working an angle. While listening, be sure to nod and smile – always smile. If you wish to make a comment, as stated previously, pose your would-be statement as a question. So basically, your questions will be your comments. Be sure to make your questions in a matter to have them think of alternatives to their view, but leave it at that. Further, you could ask them what they think of concepts that you bring up that you have learned about and just listen to their reply without being argumentative and confrontational. This all takes practice.

When speaking, if you must, always comment in a supportive manner and not in a critical way. Keep opinions to yourself because those opinions are what dragged you into trouble in the first place. Just agree with what they say no matter what it is, or if you must disagree, just state that there are possibilities and go back to asking questions in a nice way. What we are trying to do is win them over. We are trying to sell ourselves, as being that supporting person they want you to be. Always speak in the positive; stay away from negations. If you do not like something, talk about what you do like instead. Speak to people as you would a child: in an understanding, loving manner.

Learn to smile. No one like to be around a grouchy looking person. Learn to smile when you talk. This works and can be tested any time. Walk down the street and see how many people smile at you when you first smile at them. You may be surprised.

A big one is to try apologizing. If your ego is not too big, this should not be too difficult; it does wonders. An apology is rightly deserved anyways because, whether you meant to do it or not, they feel that you have wronged them. They feel wronged and this requires an apology. Do you want to keep your big ego and pride, or do you want to win them over? Would you prefer to have them hate you and secure your big ego and pride or gain love and happiness? If you really want to take it to the top, try crying to show honesty – remember, people understand the most what they see. Crying is the ultimate expression of love, but it is not to be confused with crying due to sadness.

If you really want to build or repair a relationship, these are the things that are required, and for the critical, instead of being critical of these ideas presented, which is what probably played a part in your poor communicative relationships (assuming this is you), first, give it a try and test it out for yourself before you pass judgment. Logically, only a concept tested to the fullest can be judged. Whether you are in their life or not, people will always live their life how they want to live it, so think about the following questions: Do you want to be a part of their life or not? Do you want to be a part of it if they do not live life the way you want them to? They will not do it your way; would you prefer they do it their way and hate you or love you? We might as well be in their life because, in or out, they will do what they want, and they are allowed to, once you realize this. Love is the key to success in relationships and life. Start your transition today.

Angela Merkel might be calling the southern Europeans lazy these days. But German union leaders are calling for their compatriots to emulate them in at least one way: by taking siestas.

The DGB confederation of trade unions argues that a short, lunchtime power nap makes sense for health and performance reasons. “Even though the siesta is something that isn’t a given anymore in the southern European countries, it is still a good idea for health reasons,” said Annelie Buntenbach, a DGB executive board member. “A short afternoon nap reduces the risk of, for example, a heart attack, and provides an energy boost,” she told Tageszeitung in an interview.

Constipation explained

Constipation is diagnosed when an individual moves their bowel less than the times they eat in a day. This issue is caused by eating the wrong food and the body not knowing what to do with it. The foodstuff eaten was most probably void of fiber or full of the wrong fiber, which is why it is not moving anywhere inside the body. This situation can be especially found in healthy people that decide that they are so healthy that they can indulge in the junk food the once were capable of consuming; however, these individuals do not realize that their body is no longer immune to the poisons and are very sensitive to them. As the saying goes, we just can not have it all.

Traditional Misconceptions

Taking laxatives, eating cooked fluid meals (traditional soups), and seeing an MD are some of the traditional choices that will get a sufferer going further into the wrong direction and leading to continual pain and suffering. All three mentioned including taking laxatives are stressful to the body, and stress does not lead to a healthy body. People seem to think that outside sources can help the body, when in fact, it is only the body that can help the body. The body is the only thing that can help the body, and this results by giving the body the time it needs to heal and correct the problems.

Solution

Practical knowledge and research knowledge (not theoretical or monetary-promoting knowledge) has led this researcher to understand that (non-traditional) soups are the way to go. To be more descriptive, soups, in real health circles, are defined as blended fruit placed in a bowl and eaten with a spoon. It has been proven time and time again that a single fruit blended with pure water and placed into a bowl and eaten with a spoon for as long as it takes for the individual to have their plumbing working again is the golden brick road to relieving chronic constipation. Even eMedicineHealth.com is quoted saying, “All cases will require dietary advice.”

Choline is an essential nutrient. Its role includes regulating the brain, nervous system and the cardiovascular system as mentioned in any science nutrition textbook.

Choline is available from both animal-based and plant based diets; however, animal-based diets come with a number of dangers including the promotion of all chronic (cancer, heart disease and so on) and acute diseases (Campbell & Campbell 2006). These links to disease promotion are clarified in T. Colin Campbell’s book, “The China Study.” Further, the remarkable results of patients at the Cleveland Clinic also support these findings. Health issues correct themselves once a plant-based diet is introduced to the body.

The best source of Choline comes from dark green, leafy vegetables. Additionally, dark green, leafy vegetables also provide millions of other undiscovered nutrients which will not be found in an animal-based diet or a diet that includes grains.

One of the most important roles of this nutrient is to keep the liver clean and healthy; however, this nutrients does not act alone, and it does not only clean the liver and keep it healthy: this nutrient is a part of a symphony of other nutrients which unblocks fat that block metabolism. Isolates do not work on their own.

Adding one to three pounds (depending on the weight of the individual) of green leafy vegetables to a daily diet will provide individuals with adequate amounts of this nutrient as well as all the nutrients the human organism requires.

If someone has recently changed their diet to a low-fat, raw, vegan diet, they could also be experiencing headaches, as a normal effect, due to hyper-detoxification.

As an experienced nutrition educator, I have watched friends remove Equal, artificial sugar, from their diet, and in no time their regular headaches went away. This can be caused by a number of various chemicals including Aspartame found in Equal.

If one must, here are a few folk remedies for headaches:

A pinch of Cayenne pepper on the tip of your tongue for a few minutes. Yes, it will burn but within minutes all should be well

Take a cold shower

Sleep

Drink water and rest

Get some sunshine

Meditate: Sunning or Palming

EFT, Do some tapping

Note: If your body was functioning properly and you followed the 101 health steps philosophy, you would not get a headache. Take the headache as a message from your body, and change your lifestyle and diet to avoid these sort of problems.

What is love? Is there a possibility that most people do not really know what love is? If we do not know what love is, can we learn? Have you heard of real love? Have you heard of false love?

Love is divided into two categories according to some; they are real love and false love.

False love is when you are in the relationship to satisfy your needs: the needs of your ego, the need to end your loneliness, you need to save someone, and your need to be needed; these are all selfish acts.

Real love has no needs. Real love has no opposites; it cannot turn to anger or pain. Take a look at your relationship, do you ever see abuse? Do you see anger? If you see either of those emotions then it is not really love. However, you can turn it into real love just by making a few adjustments.

Before you can love another, you must be sure to accept yourself first, then accept your partner, this will lead to real love.

All the things that create relationship issues are not important in reality. They are not real issues. The only issue that is important is the moment; this is the solution. Bringing presence into the situations will eliminate all issues. As long as both people are in the moment and not focusing on the past or future, there is no problem or situation.

At the moment, the time of an issue, there are only situations that require solutions; these solutions can be resolved with respect by the two people in the relationship. If this is focused upon, real love will be the result. There is nothing that the present cannot be higher than. It is the only moment that counts.

This is because everyone I have ever met who attempts to sustain him or herself exclusively on fruit for an extended time runs into serious health challenges. Those who attempt to live on just one fruit, such as watermelon, oranges, or tomatoes, run into similar health challenges, but more rapidly than those who vary their fruits. I have seen people irrevocably lose their health in this fashion, and I have seen people die by clinging to this premise of eating only fruit.

Fruit can be defined several ways. Culinary experts define fruit according to the way a food is used in the kitchen. Hence, for them, a pineapple is a fruit. Botanists use more technical methods of classifying foods, and for them a pineapple is a vegetable, but the tomato is a fruit. Some in the health movement have taken the liberty of defining nuts and seeds as fruit, and I have even met a few folks who refer to vegetables such as celery as fruits. I tend to use the culinary definition. Technicalities aside, we have three types of fruit to contend with.

Sweet fruits run the gamut from melons to dried fruit. They all taste sweet and tend to fall into four (not distinctly defined) groups: melons, subacid, acid, and sweet. These are the fruits typically referred to when someone speaks of eating fruit.

Vegetable fruits include tomatoes, okra, peppers, cucumbers, squash, and eggplant (aubergine). Botanically, these foods are all fruits, as the seeds are inside. They do not provide the simple carbohydrates that sweet fruits do; hence we have difficulty accessing sufficient calories from eating them.

Fatty fruits are true fruits, but they provide more fat than most fruits (all fruits provide some fat). Avocados, olives, and to a lesser extent durian, are examples of fatty fruits. (The first two average three-quarters or more fat, and durian is about one-quarter fat, measuring by calories.)

Fruits come closer to meeting our nutritional needs, on every level, than any other group of foods. However, if you try to eat only fruit for months or years at a stretch, you run the risk of gradually running low on certain vital nutrients, primarily minerals. This is particularly true for active people and those who live in warm climates.

These minerals are best provided via the consumption of tender green leafy vegetables. I recommend that people consume about 1 to 3% of their total calories in the form on greens. For most men, that equates to almost a pound of greens per day, on average, less for an average woman.

Often, a person will embark upon an all-fruit program and feel quite well. Their mistake is making a long-term decision based upon a short-term experiment. We would expect anyone who reduces the fat content of their diet by eating more fruit to feel better initially. High carbohydrates and low fat in the diet suits us extremely well. However, undermineralization takes a subsequent toll on their health. When health problems finally do hit overzealous frutarians, they often respond to the problem by eating more fruit. Picture a man in a lifeboat who has succumbed to drinking seawater. After drinking the seawater, he will get even thirstier. Drinking even more seawater will only exacerbate the problem.

Consuming young tender greens does not have to be a daily part of one’s lifestyle. When plain lettuce or celery sounds and tastes appealing, you can be sure that you are ready for some greens. Many people find that after eating fruit for a few days or weeks that greens are really a welcome treat.

It is important for me to stress that health is not created by, nor does it hinge exclusively upon, the consumption of healthy food. Health requires a full-spectrum approach, and one’s health can only be as good as your weakest lifestyle link.

A varied diet of fruits, vegetables, and a moderate amount of nuts and seeds tends to result in the best of health and nutrition. Whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic plants are the most healthful for us. While simplicity at mealtime usually provides the conditions required for ideal digestion, variety in the diet over time yields optimum nutrition.

Optimum health also cannot be achieved without including a daily fitness program. We are designed to be fit, and without fitness activities our consumption of foods must be minimized. Hence, nutrition is compromised. The rhythmic motion of many fitness activities enhances the peristaltic action of the intestines, helping to move food along for optimum digestion.

In closing, I would strongly recommend against the 100% fruitarian experiment. I do believe that eating the fruit of the season is a good program. In mango season, for example, mangos predominate heavily in my diet. In persimmon season, I will make many a meal of just persimmon. Some days I eat fruit only, for sure. Overall, however, I eat about a pound of greens per day, and recommend that young tender greens, or shoots, comprise about 2% of your total caloric intake.

101 Health Steps

There is a huge amount of misinformation being taught in the raw food world about metabolism. This is quite understandable, as most people do not even truly understand what their metabolism is. Some folks are teaching that the rate of your metabolism determines just exactly which foods are best suited for you to eat. They teach that people are born as either fast or slow metabolizers, and glorify the advantages of being a fast metabolizer. They assert that the fast metabolizers burn through fuel more rapidly than the slow metabolizers, making the fast metabolizers relatively more efficient at digesting their food. Actually, the opposite is really true. It is easy to understand if we use a car analogy. The car that gets more miles to the gallon is more efficient than the car that gets fewer miles to the gallon. It is equally as easy to understand that the person who utilizes the least fuel to accomplish any particular task, i.e., the slow metabolizer, is the most efficient.

Many raw food teachers currently say that if you are a fast metabolizer you must eat in a certain way, that is, to skew your diet so that fats (nuts, seeds, oils, avocados, olives, etc.) make up an exceptionally high percentage of total calories (60-80%). If you do not, they teach, you are destined to fail as a raw fooder. They also say that if you are a slow metabolizer that you may possibly do better to slightly increase your consumption of fruits, but that fruit (due to their abundant simple carbohydrates) should still be minimized in the overall diet.

The fast metabolizers, it is taught, will only thrive on a high fat diet, as fruits will prove to be insufficient in terms of fuel density, leaving the consumer constantly hungry and suffering from the maladies (mistakenly) associated with the overconsumption of fruit’s sugars. Only the slowest metabolizers, it is taught, could even hope to have a chance at possibly succeeding, healthwise, by utilizing fruit for fuel. Often, athletes are brought into the example. If you are a serious athlete, then you might be able to use more fruit if you are a very slow metabolizer, it is said, but otherwise, it is too easy to overeat on fruit and it really should simply be avoided.

First, let’s begin with a few terms. The term metabolism represents the sum of all of the catabolic and anabolic processes that go on within your body. The anabolic activities in your body are those whereby simpler structures are united to form more complex ones. Anabolism represents the building processes in your body: growth, repair, and all of the recombinant chemistry that goes on at the cellular and visceral level. Catabolic activities are those whereby complex structures are broken down into simpler ones. Digestion, osteoclastic activity (cells that break down bones), and the conversion of glycogen to glucose are examples of catabolism in action. Metabolism is not, in and of itself, a single function, but rather a representation of the sum total of anabolism and catabolism that is going on in the body at any given time.

Author’s note: It is the impression of this writer that slow in the sense it is used by most raw food teachers seems also to be associated with negative themes such as uncoolness and mental slowness. The imagery used in association with fast metabolizers is sexy and fun, as in; fast cars and fast blondes.

Physical activity, or lack of it, determines metabolic rate

The term metabolism does have a useful meaning for us, however. We use it with reference to the phrase, basal metabolic rate, or BMR. We use the two terms almost but not quite as synonyms. The basal metabolic rate is a measure of the amount of fuel a person utilizes, per unit of time, when awake and totally at rest. It does not include such functions as physical activity, daily household chores, or even digestion. When we use the word, metabolism we use it to mean BMR plus all the activities of the day. We might say, He has a fast metabolism and she has a very slow metabolism. By this we would mean that a person with a fast metabolism requires more fuel to perform the same amount of anabolic and catabolic processes as the person with a slow metabolism. This makes the fast metabolizer less efficient in their use of fuel. Either way, however, the difference is not very much, as the BMR rarely varies much more than about plus or minus 5% from person to person of similar body size and design. Body surface area, it turns out, is the biggest factor affecting BMR. BRM in humans accounts for the use of around 1000 calories per day.

What does affect fuel use is the amount of physical exertion one performs. A sedentary person may only use 200 calories per day in performing their daily functions whereas someone going for a vigorous 4-hour hike could use 2000 calories. Professional athletes often use 4000 calories solely for their daily training and Tour de France riders are known to use over 10,000 calories on certain days of this grueling competition. Hence it becomes easy to see that differences in BMR, or metabolism, as it is commonly referred to, plays an exceptionally small role in total calorie usage, usually representing less than 100 calories out of 2,000 to 4,000 or even more.

The truly fast metabolizer is one who uses more calories per hour, throughout the day, than the average person does. The more calories one utilizes in the course of the day, the faster would be their total metabolism. It can safely be said that a fit woman of average physique uses about 1800 calories per day and the average-sized fit man about 2400. Using the man for this example, it would mean that he averages about 100 calories per hour. We could therefore assert that a man who uses more than 100 calories per hour would be termed a fast metabolizer and a man who uses less than 100 calories per hour would be a slow metabolizer.

How Much Fat is Optimum?

The concept that fast metabolizers must consume more fat per calorie than slow metabolizers has been taught as fact in raw food circles for many years. This is contrary, however, to all we know about human health and nutrition. The Director of Nutrition for the United States Olympic Teams says, the amount of fat (as a percentage of total calories) required for the athlete remains the same, regardless of sport. The only thing that varies, sport by sport and athlete by athlete, she asserts, is the total number of calories required. Vegan doctors McDougall, Pritikin, Ornish, Campbell, Klaper, Harris, Heidrich, Barnard, and many others, all internationally renowned for their forward stance on nutrition are in agreement that 10% of calories from fat is the outside, high-end acceptable human limit.

In the field of raw nutrition, it is generally agreed that foods consumed in their raw state provide a greater amount of viable nutrients as well as nutrients that are more accessible, hence less food is needed than when one consumes cooked foods. This should mean, therefore, that less total fat is required to fill the essential physiologic roles it plays when we consume our foods in the raw. Why then are raw fooders told to eat more fats The excessive consumption of fat(cooked or raw) has been incontrovertibly linked to the development of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. The more fat we consume, the higher the rates of these dread conditions. It has been shown that when we consume more fats than we require we almost invariably consume less carbohydrates than we require. Insufficient carbohydrate consumption will result in feelings of fatigue, loss of strength, and a general lowering of vigor and vitality.

Mind bending contradictions

At this point we have come to an unbridgeable contradiction. Fast metabolizers, those who utilize the most fuel per hour, are supposedly the very people who will thrive on the highest fat levels in their diet. While we are being told that only athletes can get away with the high carbohydrate (fruit-based) diet, we know that athletes are the very people who have the fastest metabolisms. Meanwhile, scientific research unwaveringly asserts that the more fat you consume the worse it will be for your health.

Small cows eat small amounts of food relative to large cows. Active cows eat more food than their sedentary counterparts, yet all cows eat primarily the same food. Fruits and vegetables have been touted as the ultimate health foods for humans for over a century, and have been the primary food of humankind throughout our existance. Whether you are small or large, active or sedentary, fruits and vegetables remain as the foods of choice for building human health. If one person needs to consume a greater quantity of calories than another person, it simply means that they must eat a greater quantity of food, not completely different foods. The Director of Nutrition for the US Olympic Team states that the relative percentages of fat, protein and carbohydrates in the athlete’s diet should not vary; regardless of whether the athlete runs the mile or the marathon, lifts weights or plays table tennis, or shoots skeet or puts the shot. This author can only conclude that the low-fat, raw, vegan diet of whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic, plants remains the best and healthiest choice for all of us.

In case that is not enough of a contradiction to try to puzzle out, work on this one. It has been repeatedly asserted that most raw fooders would do their best, healthwise, using a diet that is composed primarily of fats. This assertion is based on the assumption that most people are fast metabolizers. The Law of Averages says that as we are working with a bell curve, only about 10% of the people would be truly classed as fast metabolizers, 10% would be slow, and the rest would fall in the middle, somewhere.

Resistance to change is futile

Do not be misled by half fast metabolism mumbo jumbo. Track your fat intake on any given day and see for yourself just exactly how much of it is in your diet. There are many web sites that make such monitoring of your caloronutrient intake quite easy. I have found www.fitday.com easy to use. Its primary advantage is that you can store your records there with the option of making them available for public or private viewing. Most people are shocked and amazed to discover that their diet is upwards of 50% fat by calorie. On average, I have found that raw fooders consume approximately 65% of their calories from fat, and only 25% from carbohydrates. This in light of the fact that less than 10% fat is the recommended amount and 80+% carbohydrates is near ideal. Is it any wonder that people have trouble sticking to their all-raw diets or that they find cooked carbohydrates alluring?

What do you eat? Where do you get your protein? Don’t you get tired of the lack of variety? These are the three common questions that vegetarians are asked by their Standard, Westernized Diet friends. Eventually, the vegetarians learn good answers. The same three questions are asked when we go vegan, this time, by our vegetarian friends. We eventually learn appropriate responses. Go raw, and the same questions come up again, this time from our vegan buddies. Why do they ask us these questions? The answer is simple: your friends don’t want to give up their old dietary habits and so they are trying to prove you wrong. Is it any wonder that raw fooders resist switching from the high fat diet they are following to a low fat raw version? Is it any wonder that they ask the same questions’ Do you have any doubt that the foot dragging is caused by deeply rooted old habits, rather than a newfound thirst for health?

Raw fats are unquestionably better for us than cooked fats, and plant fats better than animal fats. Still, the evidence is overwhelming that the high fat diet inevitably leads to many disease states including but not limited to cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Raw fooders are not immune. Do not be fooled. Fruits and vegetables are health foods. Everything else is just condiment.

When you are sick, as the example above mentions, the doctor does not recommend protein; if you ask him why, he will most probably say that it is not good for the patient at that time; it will slow down recovery time. Why is this? This is because we do not need that much protein: sick or healthy.

If we do not need something when we are sick, we certainly should not need it when we are well.

Eating actually creates by-products such as carbon dioxide.

There are people that do not eat for years or decades at a time, and they are quite healthy. There are people that feed off the sun for years at a time (Sun Gazing).

Just because we do not know about something, it does not mean that it does not exisit or is not true.

During a fast, the body rests and then uses recuperated energy to repair itself.

Fasting is thus the quickest, safest, and most natural practice known to reverse and completely eliminate acute disease.

Fasting is also highly effective in arresting, if not reversing virtually all chronic diseases, provided that cellular integrity and organic structure have not been irreversibly compromised. When cellular integrity and organic structures have been compromised, complete reversal and recovery may not be possible; but arrest of the disease process and higher levels of health can in most cases be achieved.

Stress is being here and wanting to be there. It is being in the present and wanting to be in the future. We stress because we have learned to stress (Everything is based on learned behavior). We learn it from our parents, friends, family, and all of society around us including all media. Stress is totaly controlable because we have that power, no one else. It is very possible to get out of a stressful situation.

From now on simply do your best as fast as you can and just get there. There is no way of getting to where you want any faster than your ability can (And you can only get there from the here and now). Leave stress behind in the past (Or future) where it belongs.

All you can do is make adjustments to the moment; this is all that you can do. When a stressful moment sneeks up on you, simply focus on what you are doing, or have to do, and get to it; put all of your focus on it.

The moment thought goes into the past, the mind is not focusing on the present moment where it needs to be which feeds the stress and keeps it in the moment versus the elimination of it.

Stress will no longer exist if this basic guideline is followed.

It is believed that we are in-charge of taking care of ourselves; it is our job. Others have themselves to take care of. If people, that we rely on to be happy, leave us, they that temporary happiness that they gave us leaves as well.

Sometimes old married people are shocked and feel very lonely when their wife or husband dies, but they do not know or realize that they still have themselves. If they learn how to be happy with themselves first, then losing others will be less difficult; they must realize and know that they will always have themselves.

Who leaves if we make ourselves happy and safe?

No one leaves if we learn how to make ourselves happy. We will always have ourselves until we die, so it is quite important to get to know yourself and take good care of ourselves. We must learn to enjoy our company and not need others to enjoy life. He must, additionally, take care of our health since no one else has that control but us. If, and only when, we can be good company with ourselves, can we be good, real company for another person. If people do not take care of themselves, how can they take care of others?

If we want to love others, we should love ourselves first to guarantee that it is real love. Most people understand love to be what is truly insecurity and mental weakness.

Real love comes with understanding, respect, and total commitment regardless of issue.

I was sitting next to a man in a business suit and didn’t pay much attention until we both got off at the same stop and walked to the same newsstand to get a morning paper.

The man running the stand was obviously having a bad day. He was rude, abrupt and unsmiling as we purchased our papers, which served to only add more gloom to my day. The businessman caught my eye and smiled. He then proceeded to smile brightly, thank the newsstand proprietor for the paper and for being open on such a morning to make sure we were able to get our papers. In short, he expressed his appreciation for something most of us would take for granted.

The man running the newsstand responded only with a grunt and a sour expression. The businessman then pleasantly wished him a pleasant day. As we turned away, I asked this man why he had continued to be pleasant to the newsman when he obviously didn’t care about and didn’t respond to his expression of appreciation and friendliness. The businessman grinned at me and said, “Why would I let someone else control what I say and what I feel or what kind of day I’m going to have?”

We then separated to go to our respective work places. To this day, I don’t know who that business man was, where he worked, or anything else about him. I never saw him again, even though I looked for him on the bus on other days. He appeared briefly in my life and disappeared just as quickly. I don’t even remember what he looked like. But I’ve never forgotten the words he said or the way his smile seemed like a shaft of light on a gloomy day.

That was a good 25 years ago, but the impact this had on my life has lasted. I never had a chance to thank him personally, but the way in which I try to choose to look at life as a result of those words is his legacy to me and my thanks to him.

Our interactions with the people we encounter can impact at least the next five people that person encounters. A smile and words of simple appreciation multiply themselves geometrically. We cannot control people and situations that come to us, but we can always control our response to them. And in such positive decisions lie our control and personal power to make a positive difference. And it’s something anyone and everyone can do. It is a real legacy that can impact both the present and the future.

The skin produces collagen from the raw materials provided from a proper full spectrum healthy diet which contains all the vitamins (known and unknown), minerals, enzymes, co-enzymes, and amino acids in their undamaged form. Natural News.com states: Vitamin C helps the manufacture of collagen, which then firms the skin. We must follow the steps to producing components of our organism; there are no short cuts. So if you want your collagen, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables in their whole, organic state.

Perfect your caloronutrient ratio, directing it towards 80/10/10.

There are only three caloronutrients, protein, fat and carbohydrate. Protein consumption does not vary appreciably from diet to diet. Therefore, the more fat you consume, the less carbohydrates you consume. Worldwide, RDAs for carbohydrate range from 65-75% of total calories. The average raw fooder consumes only about 20% of their total calories as carbohydrates, most of this from fruit. The underconsumption of carbohydrates and overconsumption of fats leads to a host of health problems. Leading the list are candida, diabetes, hypoglycemia, chronic fatigue, heart disease and cancer. Most of the so-called sugar metabolic disorders are actually the symptoms of the overconsumption of fats.

2. More is not better.

Nutrients are found in the body in specific quantitative relationships to other nutrients. Calcium, for example, is present in a 2/1 relationship with phosphorus. Consuming more of a specific nutrient, or consistently eating foods that are overly high in that nutrient will inevitably lead to an imbalance. We are designed like Goldilocks–we thrive when the nutritional ratios are “just right”. When it comes to nutrients, too much is just as much of a problem as too little. The optimum foods for us, nutritionally, are those foods whose nutrient content most closely mimic our nutrient needs. In every category of nutrition, fruits come closest to meeting those needs.

3. Supplements do not supplement – rather, they foster nutritional imbalances.

Except in the instance of severe and specific nutritional deficiency, chemical isolates, generally recognized as pharmaceutical quality drugs, always lead to imbalances and do more harm than good. The approach known as “better living through chemistry” has failed us consistently, every time it has been tried. On a healthy lowfat raw vegan diet, supplements are not necessary. Supplements will not make up for the nutritional insufficiencies we experience when eating a less than optimal diet because those insufficiencies are broad spectrum and supplements are relatively specific. It is always better to correct the diet than it is to attempt to supplement or remedy it.

4. Superfoods are not really super.

Dehydrated foods, especially those that have been powdered, undergo the deleterious impact of extensive oxidation and other heat related nutritive losses, such as the transformation of the viable form of B-12 into its unusable analog form. When minute quantities of any substance result in profound shifts in energy, we are dealing with a stimulant. Stimulants actually result in a release of vital reserves, hence ultimately draining vitality. Foods that are not in scale with human consumption, (the relative size relationship between us and our foods) or that must be packaged in bottles, boxes, cans, or bags, are not really super, but appeal to our superficial consumer mentality. Foods that cannot be eaten as a complete meal should automatically suspect in human nutrition.

5. Ripen fruits fully, do not rush them.

Ripe fruits yield the optimal nutrients per calorie. As many nutrients do not become fully available in fruit until it undergoes the final stages of ripening, the consumption of ripe foods is an important consideration when one aspires to optimum nutrition. Learning about fruit is a pleasant pastime. Learn the names of the various fruit varieties that are available to you. Catalogue when each variety comes into season, which ones ripen after picking, and other interesting facts about each fruit. Become a connoisseur of fruit, and, as the old saying goes, “eat no fruit before its time.”

6. Cooked foods are junk foods and supply only empty calories.

The nutrient losses associated with cooking are so extreme as to be unnecessary to list in this short article. Suffice it to say that proteins, fats and carbohydrates all degrade under the heat of cooking into toxic matter. Enzymes, coenzymes, and most vitamins are destroyed by heat. Antioxidants, phytonutrients, and minerals are damaged, as is fiber. Even water is lost in the cooking process. Nutritionally, there are no benefits to cooking wholesome raw foods. Empty calories are those from protein, fat, or carbohydrates, without their full nutrient package intact. Junk foods are generally thought of as refined foods that are missing vital nutritional elements. Oils and juices (lacking fiber), dehydrated foods (lacking water), as well as other refined foods, certainly fall into these categories.

7. Panic if it isn’t organic.

The nutritional impact of herbicide, fungicide, pesticide, rodenticide, and other “cides” upon food has repeatedly been shown to be negative–deadly, in fact. It has also been shown that the consumption of these “cides” negatively affects our nutritional status. Organic food is always the best choice nutritionally, when all other factors are equal. Scientists tell us that there has been life on earth for six billion years. We have been experimenting with toxic chemicals in our food for about sixty years. If you had to bet your life, and the lives of all people on earth, which would you choose: the system that had succeeded for 99.000,000% of time, or the one that had created such doubt about its efficacy over the last .000,0001% of time?

8. Plants perfectly meet all our needs: nutritional, spiritual, emotional, environmental, ecological and ethical.

Every nutrient known to be needed by humans is available to us from plants. There are no nutrients necessary to humans that can be obtained from animal foods that cannot also be obtained from plants. Nutritionally, all plant foods contain all nutrients–they simply exist in different proportions in different plants. Have you ever looked at a field of cows and found your mouth watering? Have you ever felt compassion for a helpless animal? Are you aware of the environmental, ecological and ethical nightmares that are perpetrated by the various animal industries? Have you ever felt a closeness to the earth, or a spiritual connection with G-d when you were nurturing plants?

9. Simplicity is the key to good digestion.

Good digestion is critical to ideal nutrition. We can only absorb and assimilate that which we can digest. Simplicity at each mealtime best facilitates optimum digestion. Reduction of the number of courses in the meal, as well as the number of ingredients in each dish, are both conducive to good digestion. If a meal has more than five ingredients, or takes more than five minutes to prepare, you are probably working too hard at creating the meal, and will likely suffer compromised digestion. Start from where you are comfortable (e.g., ten ingredients, ten minutes) and work toward eventually using only one ingredient, one minute.

10. Variety in your diet best ensures optimum nutrition.

Nutritional sufficiency is best guaranteed through the consumption of a wide variety of foods. Fortunately, Nature provides such variety during the course of each year. Over 200 different fruits and over 50 vegetables are readily available at some point during the year in most places. Take advantage of each one as it comes into season, in order to access the most variety, freshness, and lowest cost. Variety throughout the year coupled with simplicity at mealtimes creates the ideal situation for optimum nutrition. We have the ability to store most of our nutrients for long periods of time, and even to recycle many of them. The ebb and flow of the seasons brings foods to us that best satisfy our nutritional needs.

11. Develop the mono meal habit.

Mono (single course) meals provide the obvious ultimate goal for perfect digestion and nutrition. Almost all creatures eat mono meals when living naturally. The concept of eating “one food at a time, when hungry, until full” makes sense on many levels. Simply waiting for hunger to arrive is a wise move in optimizing digestion, absorption, and assimilation–all critical factors in good nutrition. Overeating results in compromised digestion. Variety of food choices is commonly a huge factor in overeating. The easiest way to vanquish the habit of overeating is to avoid stimulating our appetites with an excess of different foods by choosing very simple or even mono-meals. Mono meals provide a satiation that cannot be matched by complex meals. They allow us to fully and realistically get in touch with our hunger, and to finally come to appreciate the healthful reasons for eating. Experiment with the mono meal program by including a few mono meals each week. As you come to like the results, you can gradually increase the number of mono meals you consume. Your nutritional status will improve, and you will develop superior overall health.

12. Fitness matters.

Physical activity is one of the key requirements to good nutrition. Without sufficient physical activity, peristalsis of the intestines is not as efficient. Physical activity utilizes blood sugar, making for healthier blood sugar metabolism. It also greatly accelerates blood circulation and lymphatic flow, enhancing protein and fat metabolism while improving their utilization. The vasodilation that accompanies physical activity also enhances nutrient delivery. There is another aspect of fitness worthy of serious consideration. Athletes consume and utilize considerably more fuel (calories) than the average person, for two reasons. The first is that their higher activity levels require additional fuel. The second is that fit folks usually carry more muscle mass than their sedentary counterparts, and their muscle tissue requires more fuel than any tissue other than nerves. By eating more food, active people consume more calories, and along with those extra calories come additional essential nutrients: enzymes, coenzymes, antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, fiber, and even water. It is easier for a fit person to be nutritionally sound because they take in more nutrients. This may be one of the most powerful arguments for attaining fitness: we are naturally better nourished than sedentary folks, and are able to eat more food without weight gain.

There Is No Substitute For Healthful Living

Each of these steps is beneficial in the pursuit of health and optimum nutrition. The lowfat raw vegan approach, accomplished by the consumption of whole, fresh, ripe raw organic plants, is the most nutritious method of eating. Couple this with simplicity at mealtimes, diversity in your diet, the implementation of frequent mono meals and a regular fitness program, and you have the makings of a regimen that will bring you to the pinnacle of good health.
