<p><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=chi">(ESPN Chicago) Chicago Bears</a> defensive end <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=10449">Gaines Adams</a> died Sunday morning of cardiac arrest, the Greenwood, S.C., county coroner said. He was 26.</p>
<p>Greenwood County coroner James T. Coursey told ESPN that Adams, a Greenwood native, was taken to the emergency room at Self Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9 a.m.</p>
<p>Adams, who had just completed his third season in the NFL, went into cardiac arrest at his family&#8217;s home early Sunday morning, said Marcia Kelley-Clark, chief deputy coroner for Greenwood County.</p>
<p>The autopsy showed Adams had an enlarged heart, a condition Kelley-Clark said can often lead to a heart attack. But Adams&#8217; relatives didn&#8217;t know about it.</p>

<p>It is commonly understood that fitness is the end all to health; however, if this is the case, why are so many pro athletes dying and still subjected to illnesses? If it were true, why would early stages of heart disease be found in &#8220;healthy and fit&#8221; soldiers dated back to the Korean war <span id="more-4118"></span>(Study can be found in The China Study by Campbell C), further, in modern day pro football athletes such as Fabrice Muamba (documented by The Guardian) and Nigerian footballer Bobsam Elejiko (reported by the BBC). In addition, if sports is the key to health, how could diseases be named after athletes such as the baseball player Lou Garrents who has been given the honour of having a disease named after him due to his development a the disease doctors knew nothing about and yet named. How can athletes get sick? Fitness is king according to most people these days.</p>
<p>A theory why athletes get sick, supported by research knowledge in the referenced study above, is because they are sick due to their lifestyle. Sickness does not happen overnight, in most cases, unless you get poison ivy or something of the like. Sickness develops. The very common saying, &#8220;don&#8217;t judge a book by its cover&#8221; has obvious meaning when we look at pro athletes that die or get heart attacks suddenly. This phrase is absolutely perfect to describe the physique of an athlete while not seeing what is or has developed inside.</p>
<p>In November of 2011, a 30-year old professional footballer died on a football pitch during a game. We are talking about a young, &#8220;healthy,&#8221; and &#8220;fit&#8221; individual. Bobsam Elejiko was at the top of his game. Studies found in books such as Campbell&#8217;s The China Study makes if very easy to understand why Elejiko died so prematurely.</p>

<p>The following article comes from The Guardian. The article talks about how Fabrice Muamba died and was revived after 15 shocks. It is a good think the doctors did not quit at fourteen. Forty eight minutes later Muamba regained his life and is apparently recovering well, however, still living the way he always has which may lead him back to the same situation again. If the cause is not addressed, the symptoms will return with a vengeance. It is inevitable. Studies found in The China Study, by Campbell C, clearly and remarkably relate diet to effects such as heart attacks.</p>

If pro athletes are dying, what would that mean for the average individual? Could we be seeing the results in the annual statistics of heart disease and cancer soaring to new record highs in all countries?</p>

<p>Vinegar is very, very good for cleaning clothes, floors, and toilets. It will also kill bugs in your home.</p>
<p>In short, keep vinegar out of your body because it is far from a health food and as potent as harsh cleaners. Sickness is not a deficiency of vinegar. If the body is given the nutrients (mentioned above) through a plant-based diet, it will stay healthy for more years that the mind can imagine. A deficiency of nutrients is the answer not vinegar. Nutrients from a whole, raw, plant-based diet is what keeps the body in order and addresses the cause of all disease.</p>

<p>Usually, when people vomit, they go to the hospital or take gravel which is a drug that stops vomiting, and these options are not so good. Going to the hospital will lead to drug use only. A deficiency of drugs is not the cause of the vomiting.</p>
<p>Vomiting means that the body is rejecting the substances that has been consumed. The body is as wise as nature itself. The body knows what to do and how to do it and is capable assuming it is given the equipment to do so (equipment such as nutrients, sleep, rest, water, and the list goes on). <span id="more-4102"></span>If the body is rejecting &#8220;food&#8221; it would not make much sense to eat at this time because the body is quite clearly expressing that it does not want anything in the stomach. The cause could be a number of things caused by a build up of things. Some of these things could be food poisoning or just poisoning of some sort. The build up mentioned could be a life time build up of the wrong lifestyle choices such as the wrong choices of food, drink, or thoughts.</p>
<p>The remedy to vomiting is quite simple. It is simply because all one has to do is nothing (rest is thought of as nothing). The body requires rest: physiological, emotional, and physical. This means that the human organism must try to sleep as much as possible and at the least lay down in a meditation-like state. In order to get blood to the head, the elimination of a pillow may help because if the head is popped up with a pillow, it will be more difficult for the blood to go against gravity to get to the brain (head). If the individual becomes hungry, water should be enough; however, if it is not enough, coconut water has a lot of nutrients; further, it does not require energy from the body to digest, absorb or assimilate. If the body still feels as though it needs food, fruit would be the only type of food recommended.</p>
<p>In short, all that is being highlighted here is that the individual that is vomiting must rest on all levels, so the body can do what it needs to do to correct the cause.</p>

<p>The cause of HBP is fundamental and very easy to explain. When people eat food that is high in cholesterol, the cholesterol begins to block the arteries.</p>
<p>Because it is difficult for the blood to pass through when the arteries become full of cholesterols, the pressure of the blood goes up in order to ensure that the blood gets to where it is needed. The body is saving the human organism from death in its wisdom.</p>
<p>To repair HBP is quite simple. By giving the body a chance to remove the cholesterol while eliminating the addition of more cholesterol will do the trick. This is accomplished by eliminating the consumption of cholesterol foods from the diet: All animal and oil in a diet is cholesterol building. In addition, eating foods that encourage metabolic enzyme production, such as raw, whole fruits and leafy green vegetables, will allow the body to repair.</p>
<p>As a result, giving the body what it needs and asks for is the solution for eliminating HBP, which is simply an eating disorder as understood by the findings above.</p>

<p>There has been a rise in talk about this thing called cholesterol and a lot of people do not know what it means. Simply put, it is something necessary for the body; however, the body can produce its own, so outside sources of cholesterol is not necessary. In circulation is the idea that there are good and bad cholesterol, but in fact, the bad is actually necessary, so it can not be that bad. Cholesterol is something that simply requires balance and moderation. Both the “good” and “bad” cholesterol, formally known as high and low density cholesterol, plays its part in the world inside the body.<span id="more-4081"></span></p>
<p>Where is cholesterol from? It has already been explained above that the best source comes from the bodies own production; however, today the majority of cholesterol now comes from what people choose to eat in this day and age. The source that contains cholesterol in people’s meal is from animals in their meals. Outside sources of cholesterol comes from an animal-based diet. Plants or plant-based diets do not contain cholesterol (in comparison). Additionally oil is also a source of cholesterol. Every time fried products are consumed cholesterol is consumed.</p>
<p>People these days have record high levels of cholesterol. Academics such as <a href="http://101healthsteps.com/?s=campbell">Colin Campbell, PhD, from Cornell University</a> suggest total cholesterol of 150 is ideal because no one has ever had a heart attack below this level of cholesterol in a body. People have so much cholesterol these days because people eat more fried food and animal products than ever before and that is as simple as it gets. The consumption of animal products has increase as has cholesterol levels in the population in our society.</p>
<p>Reducing cholesterol is quite easy if all one did were to eliminating it from their meals. As explained above, an increase in animals and oil causes an increase in total cholesterol, so a decrease of animals and oil would do the same and also decrease. <a href="http://101healthsteps.com/?s=mcdougal">Dr. MacDougal, a successful doctor using these strategies, has had remarkable results</a> using this research and practical knowledge. He is a very successful, renowned doctor in this dietary concept. <p>Doctors say drugs, of course they do, because that is their product, their business, their education. They spend years learning about drugs and surgery. Why and how would they suggest anything else? Have you been to an Apple store and they recommended Samsung? Their survival depends on your choice of their products.</p>
<p>Doctors and their drugs are wonderful when they are truly needed. In such cases as emergencies, but the problem is that their drubs when used to deal with situations such s high cholesterol, become ignorant to the cause of the issue. Drugs are not the missing nutrient or the factor that addresses the cause. It simply keeps the cause alive while focusing on the effects. Drugs give the impression that the problems are being addressed when it obviously is not because the cause is the individual’s dietary choices. This illogical theory of addressing this, and any other, health issue simply requires some attention and re-evaluation.</p>
<p>In short, we have seen an increase in animals in our diet, as well as an increase in cholesterol. If this continues more people will suffer this unnecessary fate, take unnecessary drugs and experience the side effects, and lifelessness. To sum up, we know where we get our high cholesterol from and what needs to be done. As a result, we can now make a difference in our lives, or not. It is clear that diet directly effects cholesterol. As a solution, we need to teach ourselves to reduce animals and oil in our diet until it is eliminated and increase our fruit and vegetable consumption, before it is too late. Our lives depend on it.</p>

<p>Despite a recommendation that all children under five should take Vitamin D supplements, 74 per cent of parents know nothing about the guidelines. And more than half of health professionals are also unaware of them.<span id="more-4071"></span></p>
<p>Vitamin D supplements are also recommended for pregnant women, breastfeeders and the elderly.</p>
<p>Dr Benjamin Jacobs, consultant paediatrician at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, described the vitamin deficiency issue as a &#8216;major problem&#8217;.</p>
<p>He told BBC Breakfast: &#8216;We see about one case of rickets a month in our hospital, but that&#8217;s the very severe end of the disease.</p>

<p>He explained that Vitamin D was found to prevent rickets about 100 years ago when most children in London suffered from the disease &#8211; it was later eradicated.</p>
<p>But then, in the 1950s, there was concern that children were getting too much Vitamin D in food supplements and cod liver oil, so supplements were stopped. This was unlike in other Western countries where they continued.</p>
<p>Dr Jacobs said: &#8216;We thought they were unnecessary, possibly harmful, and that was a major mistake.&#8217;</p>
<p>He said parents are largely unaware of the risk of the condition, while health professionals are often taught that rickets is a disease of the past.</p>
<p>&#8216;It&#8217;s really only over the past 10 years or so that I&#8217;ve noticed children with Vitamin D deficiency. And still I would say today, the majority of doctors, health visitors, midwives, nurses, are not aware enough of the problem,&#8217; he said.</p>
<p>Asked about how vulnerable people can be given more Vitamin D, Dr Jacobs said current guidelines suggest taking drops or tablets, but experts are also looking into food supplementation.</p>
<p>He said it would not be harmful if people ended up with too much Vitamin D in their diet.</p>

<p>New research published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology has revealed that <strong>long-term exposure of MCF-10A human mammary epithelial cells to aluminium results in anchorage-independent growth, a key hallmark of cultured tumour cells</strong> and of cells on the way to malignant transformation. This study also found that shorter (7 days) exposure to aluminium results in diminished cell numbers owing to cellular senescence.<span id="more-4065"></span></p>
<p><a name="more"></a><strong>A commonly used household product that contains aluminium is deodorant (antiperspirants)</strong>. The aluminium contaminant found in most antiperspirants is Aluminium Chlorohydrate. A 1990 study discovered an association between exposure to aluminium and long-term use of antiperspirants and Alzheimer’s disease. <strong>Observations made indicated a trend toward a higher risk with increasing frequency of use</strong>. [1]</p>
<p>Due to the ease of Aluminium being absorbed through the skin in the daily application of antiperspirants containing high concentrations of aluminium, this type of exposure can increase the risks of being exposed to Aluminium Chlorohydrate well above what would be considered normal.</p>
<p>The effect of aluminium on cellular proliferation and cellular senescence is strikingly similar to that of activated oncogenes, which increases DSBs and cellular senescence by inducing proliferation stress when transfected into normal cells. <strong>The study found this effect surprising for aluminium, present in antiperspirants at high concentrations because, presumably, it is considered harmless for the breast area</strong>. In contrast to gallium and indium which belong to the same group as aluminium in the Mendeleev Table, they did not induce anchorage-independent growth in MCF-10A cells, showing that the effects reported in this study are specific for aluminium. [2]</p>
<p>Although most of us are exposed to aluminium at home, <strong>many are exposed to aluminium during the production of aluminium products</strong>. Aluminium production and metalworking industries have shown consistent <strong>elevated risks for pancreatic cancer</strong> [3]. In Canada, the mortality of a large group of men employed in aluminium production using the Söderberg process was examined between 1950 and 1977, and compared with the pertinent rates for the Province of Quebec. <strong>Workers exposed to condensed pitch volatiles exhibited significantly increased mortality from all cancers</strong> (304 observed, 246.6 expected), and from esophageal and stomach cancer (50 observed, 32.8 expected), lung cancer (101 observed, 70.7 expected) and other malignancies (60 observed, 45.3 expected) [4].<strong> </strong></p>

The only logical reasons I can think of would be because many of the globalists have vested interests in organisations that produce profitable products that contain aluminium, and the government is reaping millions of dollars in tax from the purchase of products that contain aluminium.  The following is a list of household products that the globalists and the government don’t want you to know that contain aluminium.</p>

<p>The risk of developing breast cancer from excessive use of aluminium is also evident. A study published in 2003 by the European Journal of Cancer Prevention found a correlation between earlier diagnosis of breast cancer and antiperspirant deodorant use (5). A 2003 study also indicated “underarm shaving with antiperspirant deodorant use may play a role in breast cancer [5].</p>
<p>Thankfully, the link between breast cancer and aluminium is not conclusive and still needs considerable research to be conducted. A 2004 study reviewing the evidence for and against the possible link between breast cancer and underarm cosmetics wrote “<strong>Although animal and laboratory studies suggest a possible link between certain chemicals used in underarm cosmetics and breast cancer development, there is no reliable evidence that underarm cosmetics use increases breast cancer risk in humans</strong> [6].<strong> </strong></p>

<p>The three most widely used food dyes —Red 40, Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 — are known to be contaminated with carcinogens, the Washington-based health watchdog organization said.</p>
<p>Evidence suggests, but does not prove, that other dyes — Blue 1, Blue 2, Green 3 and Red 40 — cause cancer in animals, the CSPI report said.</p>
<p>The U.S. Food and Drug Administration already recognizes Red 3 as a carcinogen, but the Ronald Reagan administration prevented a ban being placed on Red 3, as required by U.S. law in the case of any food additive known to cause cancer.</p>
<p>About 100,000 kg of Red 3 dye are used annually worldwide in processing food.</p>
<p>As of Tuesday, European food manufacturers will be required to add a warning on product packaging if the product contains one of six artificial colours linked to cancer and other health issues.</p>
<p>As of Tuesday, European food manufacturers will be required to add a warning on packaging that a product &#8220;may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children&#8221; if it contains one of six artificial colours. The colours, some the same as those identified in the U.S. CSPI study, were found by a 2008 study at Britain&#8217;s Southampton University to affect children&#8217;s behaviour.</p>
<p>The colours ,known as the Southampton Six, are: sunset yellow (E110), quinoline yellow (E104), carmoisine (E122), allura red (E129), ponceau 4R (E124), and tartrazine (E102).</p>

The human organism does not need sodium chloride at all, it needs sodium found in fruits and vegetables.</p>
<p>However, sodium chloride does have similarities to cyanide and arsenic because it is also a protoplasmic poison, which means that it kills cells on contact by disrupting the cells integrity &#8211; all 75 trillion.</p>
<p>Eliminating sodium chloride (salt) from your diet will especially be beneficial for those with edema and high b lood pressure, obesity, and hypertention. The list goes much longer than the one mentioned, and it could be stated that most illnesses are affected by sodium chloride in their diet.</p>
<p>A healthy individual would regect salt in a diet via vomitting or diarrhea; however, an unhealthy person does not have the energy to do this, so their body must deal with it in other ways.</p>
<p>The body reacts to the salt as it would any poison. Salt does not retain water in the body; the body dilutes the salt in order to reduce the damages caused by the salt. Further, it stores it somewhere where damage can be deferred to a later date with hopes that the body will have the ability to eliminate it before further damaged it caused.</p>
<p>According to findings by Victoria Bidwell in her book<em> THE HEALTH SEEKERS&#8217; YEARBOOK</em>, <em>&#8220;one ounce of ingested salt holds 3 quarts of water &#8211; or 6 pounds of excess bodily water and fluid &#8211; in suspension. Consider&#8230; an ounce of salt in the body will &#8220;seize and hold&#8221; 3 quarts of water. This means that&#8230; salt holds 70 tims its weight in water!!!&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Putting salt on a wound will show any individual how the body reacts to salt.</p>
<p>Salt is addictive and come with withdrawal symptoms when the human organism tries to eliminate it from the diet.</p>
<p>Biochemistry tells us that sodium chloride separates into individual ions in the body. After the stomach does what it can, it sends the sodium and chloride to the liver then kidneys because those organs can only do so much. Finally, a large amount of water molecules are used to surround each of these now two damaging ions in a stored area of the body. This build up of water molecules is why individuals with a lot of salt in safe storage have swollen legs, hands, feel, and puffy eyes.</p>
<p>Moreover, potassium is quickly lost in the urine to offset the absorption of salt by tissue. Low potassium means low blood sugar, which means low energy and irratibility.</p>
<p>To top it all off, when we cook our food, we destroy the potassium that was originally found in the food leaving the human organism with that much less to fight the battle.</p>
<p>Even an athlete, which most people are not, cannot avoid the high blood pressure and strokes caused by the constricting blood vessels that come from salt (sodium chloride). Anemia and atrophy of the lungs are a sure reaction caused by the lack of oxygen in the blood vessles (<em>THE HEALTH HAZAREDS OF SALT, Andrew and Cheryl Zupko</em>).<em> &#8220;Acne, stomach ulcers, edema have all been linked to excessive salt intake (Zupko A &amp; C).&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Zupko A &amp; C also state, <em>&#8220;A severe enough potassium deficiency caused by excessive salt intake will cause the muscles, valves, and arteries along the entire coronary route to adapt by shrinkin g, calcifying, and scarring, all the which untimately destroy tissue integrity&#8230; heart failure.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>In summary, sodium is an essential nutrient, sodium chloride is not; it is a combination of sodium and chloride that is toxic to the human organism. Sodium is found in the perfect ratio in fruits and vegetables; sodium chloride is unusable to the human organism and acts as a cell killer.</p>

<p>Because of their trust in strangers that are &#8216;qualified&#8217; in medicine [not health], individuals use medicine [toxic, poisonous drug chemicals] to lower cholesterol instead of addressing the cause [a poor diet and lifestyle]. Other sources of this &#8216;knowledge&#8217; [theoretical knowledge to be more accurate; aka propaganda knowledge] comes from the pharmaceutical companies themselves, which promote directly to the people via media [TV commercials, TV shows, film, and news].</p>
<p>Now the comparison: High blood pressure is due to high fat in the blood and arterial walls. The blood has difficulties getting through to the brain and the other vital organs in order to survive and live, so the body, in its wisdom, increases the pressure in order to get the blood to it destination and maintain life; however, the doctors in their lack of wisdom and understanding of the cause of disease, reduce the blood pressure, which in turn reduces the blood to the vital organs, which further eventually leads to death. Of course it is not the drugs that kill you, it is the lack of blood flow to your vital organs. The cause is not addressed.</p>
<p>Tylenol is an an amazing poisonous neurological chemical because it controls your body. In times of high temperatures, for example, it neurologically crosses wires in the body that convinces the body that it is well when it is not. The body then lowers the temperature, which it increased to destroy bacteria, due to dangerously high levels of bacteria due to toxemia, making us &#8220;feel well&#8221; and act as though we are when we are not and should be acting accordingly. Feeling sick is the body&#8217;s way of keeping you in bed and at rest. &#8220;Medicine&#8221; does not address the bacteria, convinces you that you are well, and adds damage to the already toxic body with itself, which further adds to the problem. The illness will return over and over and over again until it decides to come back as something more dangerous in order to get the individuals attention.</p>
<p>The similarities between high blood pressure (HBP) medicine and Tylenol is that they both force our body to die by neurologically adjusting our bodies wisdom to survive. The HBP medicine addresses the effect instead of the cause by reducing the blood flow, and the Tylenol does the same by making us feel as though we have no headache when we do and lowering our temperature when it should be high in order to destroy bacteria. The two &#8220;medicine&#8221; both address the effects, which creates an ongoing &#8220;chasing the tail&#8221; solution, which perpetually keeps us sick and on these toxic, poisonous chemicals masked as &#8220;medicine.&#8221;</p>
<p>Teaching our children to respect the wisdom of their bodies at a young age is a lot easier than teaching them when the have been brainwashed by the status quo and so polluted medically that they would prefer toxins to nature&#8217;s doctors. If we want things to change, we must reach out to the children and educate them before they are brainwashed by the system that is 100 years behind in the comprehension of health and blinded by profit.</p>
<p>We as a specie have been around for 10 million years and have survived without drugs for 99.9999999999% of the time we have existed here. In the past 50 years, disease has been reaching new highs and names for effects are surpassing 10,000. If we wish to survive, we must go back to the fundamentals and discard the &#8220;modern medicine&#8221; ideologies. If you were to bet on something, would you not take the bet that is 99.99999999999% affective?</p>

A healthy, strong body is not prone to those diseases.</p>
<p>The study posted on Yahoo fails to highlight that the number of breast cancer victims are still a growing concern, and the fact is that just because the women are being diagnosed with their diseases are found early, it does not mean that they last any longer than they would if the cancer was found at a later time. Meaning that individuals simply get diagnosed earlier giving the impression that they are living longer.</p>

This is simply not true at all.</p>
<p>When oil is heated, it becomes rancid and poisonous to the human body. It is refined; it does not contain any other nutrient. It is 100% fat. This toxic abuse stresses the nervous system and takes away the nervous systems ability to heal the every day damage that is received uncontrollably, such as pollution.<em> <span id="more-2378"></span></em></p>
<p>Oil is 100% fat; it is refined: stripped of macro- and micro-nutrients (Vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, enzymes, co-enzymes, phytonutrients,  essential fatty acids, protein and carbohydrates).</p>
<p>The following excerpt from the book <em>The China Study</em> supports the claim that most people that are fat definitely have some stage of heart disease, and they must do something to prevent a heart attack before it is too late.</p>
<p>Building heart disease by eating fried food is a self-affliction more dangerous than most peoples simple mind can understand. It is suggested that those people change before it is too late. If you eat oily food, fatty food, junk food, and cannot see your abdomen muscles, you are fat and well on your way to heart disease (Not to mention under-muscled).<em><!--more--></em></p>
<blockquote><p><em>(Excerpt from The China Study) &#8220;Over the next twenty-four hours, 3,000 Americans will have heart attacks, roughly the same number of people who perished in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;The heart is the centerpiece of life and, more often than not in America; it is the centerpiece of death. Malfunction of the heart and/ or circulation system will kill 40% of Americans, more than those killed by any other injury or ailment, including cancer. Heart disease has been our number one cause of death for almost one hundred years. This disease does not recognize gender or race boundaries; all are affected. If you were to ask most women what disease poses the greatest risk to them, heart disease or breast cancer, many women would undoubtedly say breast cancer. But they would be wrong. Women’s death rate from heart disease is eight times higher than their death rate from breast cancer.</em></p>
<p><em>If there is an American game, it is baseball; an American dessert, apple pie. If there is an American disease, it is heart disease.&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;At the end of the Korean War, a landmark scientific study was reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Military medical investigators had examined the hearts of 300 male soldiers killed in action in Korea. The soldiers, at an average age of twenty-two years, had never been diagnosed with heart problems. In dissecting these hearts, researchers found startling evidence of disease in an exceptional number of cases. Fully 77.3% of the hearts they examined had gross Evidence of heart disease. (In this instance, gross means large.)&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;That number, 77.3%, is startling. Coming at a time when our number one killer was still shrouded in mystery, the research clearly demonstrated that heart disease develops over an entire lifetime. Furthermore, almost everyone was susceptible! These soldiers were not couch- potato slouches; they were in top condition in the prime of their physical lives. Since that time, several other studies have confirmed that heart disease is pervasive in young Americans.&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;But what is heart disease? One of the key components is plaque. One out of twenty diseased men had so much plaque that 90% of an artery was blocked. Why hadn’t these soldiers had a heart attack already? After all, only 10% of the artery was open. How could that be enough? It turns out that if the plaque on the inner wall of the artery accumulates slowly, over several years, blood flow has time to adjust. Think of blood flowing through your artery as a raging river. If you put a few stones on the sides of a river every day over a period of years, like plaque accumulating on the walls of the artery, the water will find another way to get to where it wants to be. Maybe the river will form smaller streams over the stones.&#8221;</em><br />
<em> </em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;When the artery becomes blocked over such a short period of time, there is little chance for collateral blood flow to develop. When this happens, blood flow downstream of the rupture is severely reduced and the heart muscles don’t get the oxygen they require. At this point, as heart muscles cells start to die, heart pumping mechanisms begin to fail, and the person may feel a crushing pain in the chest or a searing pain down into an arm and up into the neck and jaw. In short, the victim starts to die. This is the process behind most of the 1.1 million heart attacks that occur in America every year. One out of three people who have a heart attack will die from it.</em>&#8221;</p>
<p><em>&#8220;We now know that the small to medium accumulation of plaque, the plaque that blocks less than 50% of the artery, is the most deadly.</em>&#8221;</p>

<p><em>&#8220;No study has been more influential than that of the Framingham Heart Study. After World War I, the National Heart Institute was created with a modest budget and a difficult mission. They didn’t know why these lesions developed or how they led to heart attacks. In search for these answers, the National Heart Institute decided to follow a population in the population and to see who got heart disease and who didn’t.&#8221;</em><br />
<em>&#8220;Over 5,000 residents of Framingham, both male and female, agreed to be poked and prodded by scientists over the years so that we might learn something about heart disease.&#8221;</em><br />
<em></em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;The Framingham Heart Study developed the concept of risk factors such as cholesterol, blood pressure, physical activity, cigarette smoking and obesity. Because of the Framingham Study, we now know that these risk factors play a prominent role in the causation of heart disease. Over 1,000 scientific papers have been published from this study, and the study continues to this day, having now studied four generations of Framingham residents.&#8221;</em><br />
<em></em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;The shining jewel of the Framingham Study is its findings on blood cholesterol. When this study was started, most doctors believed that heart disease was an inevitable wearing down of the body, and we could do little about it. Our hearts were like car engines. As we got older, the parts didn’t work as well and sometimes gave out. By demonstrating that we could see the disease in advance by measuring risk factors, the idea of preventing heart disease suddenly had validity. Researchers wrote, it appears that a prevention program is clearly necessary. We spend over 30 billion dollars a year on drugs to control these risk factors and other aspects of cardiovascular disease.&#8221;</em><br />
<em></em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;Early research led to the alarming conclusion that we have some of the highest rates of heart disease in the world. The Papua New Guinea Highlanders, for example, pop up in research quite a bit because heart disease is rare in their society. American men died from heart disease at a rate almost seventeen times higher than their Chinese counterparts. Why were we succumbing to heart disease in the sixties and seventies, when much of the world was relatively unaffected?&#8221;</em><br />
<em></em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;Quite simply, it was a case of death by food. The cultures that have lower heart disease rates eat less saturated fat and animal protein and more whole grains, fruit and vegetables. In other words, they subsist mostly on plant foods while we subsist mostly on animal foods. For example, Japanese men who live in Hawaii or California have a much higher living in Japan.&#8221;</em><br />
<em></em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;Smoking habits are not the cause because men in Japan, who were more likely to smoke, still had less coronary heart disease than the Japanese Americans. In simple terms, animal foods were linked to higher blood cholesterol; plant foods were linked to lower blood cholesterol.&#8221;</em><br />
<em>&#8220;Research ahead of its time.&#8221;</em><br />
<em></em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;One of the most progressive doctors was Dr. Lester Morrison of Angeles. He started a study in 1946 (two years before the Framingham Study) to determine the relationship to dietary fat intake to the incidence of atherosclerosis. In his study he instructed fifty heart attack survivors to maintain their normal diet and fifty different heart attack survivors to consume an experimental diet.&#8221;</em><br />
<em></em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;After eight years, only twelve of fifty people eating their normal American Diet were alive (24%). In the diet group, twenty-eight people were still alive (56%), almost two and one-half times the amount of survivors in the control group. After twelve years, every single patient in the control group was dead. In the diet group, however, nineteen people were still alive, a survival rate of 38%.&#8221;</em><br />
<em> </em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;Today, this epic battle between defenders of the status quo and advocates of diet is as strong as ever. Mostly, the status quo has been protected. Despite the potential of diet and disease prevention, most of the attention given to heart disease has been on mechanical and chemical intervention for those people who have advanced disease. Diet has been pushed aside. Surgery, drugs, electronics devices and new diagnostic tools have stolen the spotlight.&#8221;</em><br />
<em> </em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;We now have coronary bypass surgery, where a healthy artery is pasted over a diseased artery, thereby bypassing the most dangerous plaque on the artery. The ultimate surgery, of course, is the heart transplant, which even utilizes an artificial heart on occasion. We also have a procedure that doesn’t require cracking the chest plate open, called coronary angioplasty, where a small balloon is inflated in a narrowed, diseased artery, squishing the plaque back against the wall, opening up the passage for increased blood flow. We have defibrillators so that few can observe individual arteries without having to expose the heart. The past fifty years have truly been a celebration of chemicals and technology (as opposed to diet and prevention).&#8221;</em></p></blockquote>
