Editor’s Comments: A subject which constantly needs to be mentioned. Below are various sources regarding the daily recommended allowances for protein; additional links are provided with further information for the unconvinced.
Every one seems to be an academic when it comes to the RDAs of protein; however, they have not check with the sources of authority on the subject which say the opposite to the understanding of the hearsay information most people rely on.
A diet such as The 80/10/10 RV diet, which is simply a low-fat, raw, vegan diet – low-fat, raw fruits and vegetables – meets the dietary recommendation allowances (RDAs). Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
(101healthsteps) According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention: Adult – 56 Grams of protein each day; further stating that growing boys need less at 52 (ages 14-18). These numbers are very small and nothing compared to the information people are convinced is the truth. In addition: 10-35% of daily calories is also recommended to come from protein.

According to the World Health Organization’s (W.H.O.) official website, they recommended the following intake of protein grams per day in the following countries: Adult – USA(1989): 58-63, UK(1991): 55, Russia(1991): 65-108. These numbers have come down dramatically since and seem to continue to decline. I guess you could say that high levels of protein is not such an important thing.

Wiki Answers.com states today’s RDA recommendations from the World Health Organization: the multiplier be between .45 minimum (for sedentary individuals) and .8 (very active). The US RDA sets the range between .66 and .8 with pregnant and lactating women at .88 to 1.1.(grams/kg/day)
Wikipedia.com: (Today’s RDAs) According to US/Canadian Dietary Reference Intake guidelines, women aged 19–70 need to consume 46 grams of protein per day, while men aged 19–70 need to consume 56 grams of protein per day to avoid a deficiency.[12] U.S recommended daily protein dietary allowance, measured as intake per body weight, is 0.8 g/kg.[9] However, this recommendation is based on structural requirements, but disregards use of protein for energy metabolism.[9] Several studies have concluded that active people and athletes may require elevated protein intake (compared to 0.8 g/kg).[13][10][9] Suggested amounts vary between 1.6 g/kg and 1.8 g/kg,[10] while a proposed maximum daily protein intake would be approximately of 25% of energy requirements at approximately 2 to 2.5 g/kg.[9] However, many questions still remain to be resolved.
